Why We Serve in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic, celebrated for its rich culture and natural beauty, also faces significant healthcare challenges—especially in underserved rural areas and marginalized urban communities. While the country has a developing healthcare system, many people still experience limited access to quality care due to poverty, geographic isolation, and a shortage of medical personnel.
One of the most vulnerable populations is the growing community of Haitian refugees and migrants. Often living in the shadows of society, many Haitians in the Dominican Republic face systemic barriers to healthcare, including lack of documentation, language differences, and social discrimination. These factors result in widespread unmet medical needs and health inequities, particularly among women, children, and those with chronic conditions.
Medicine in Mission serves in the Dominican Republic to help close these critical gaps. Through collaborative, multidisciplinary outreach, we provide compassionate care to both Dominican and Haitian populations, offering not only clinical support but also education, training, and advocacy. Our mission is rooted in respect and sustainability—building bridges across cultural and social divides to create lasting, community-centered health solutions.
