History
Medicine in Mission is a subsidiary of Ministry In Mission (www.ministryinmission.org).
Ministry in Mission (MNM) founded in 2007 by Jackie Rychel, provides short mission trip opportunities for people interested in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in foreign countries, particularly the Caribbean. MNM originally focused its efforts doing human care and disaster response in Haiti and has now expanded to the Dominican Republic and has plans to do mission work in Belize, South Florida, and other Caribbean countries. MNM is a Registered Service Organization (RSO) of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) and has worked with the LCMS disaster response co-ordinating earthquake and hurricane relief work.
Dr. Steven Repas MD has been going to Haiti on mission trips since he was 13 years old. At Ohio State University, Steven founded “Ministry In Mission Ohio State” a services organization that brought OSU students to Haiti for service work. Continuing through medical school, Steven, who is also a Certified Emergency Medical Technician, assisted doctors and helped in the emergency room at Saint Michel Hospital in Jacmel, Haiti
During Steven’s residency interviews, Many of the medical schools were interested in Steven’s medical work in Haiti and expressed their need for their resident doctors to do short-term medical trips and practice medicine in foreign countries.
Steven discussed these needs with Jackie Rychel, president of Ministry In Mission, and Medicine in Mission was born.
The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Internation Mission In the Dominican Republic sponsored and made arrangements for Steven to visit hospitals in a number of Caribbean countries, Including The Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Belize. The response, to short-term medical mission trips, was overwhelmingly positive by the hospital administrators .
Medicine in Mission entered into a memorandum of understanding with Boonshoft Medical School at Wright State University to coordinate these trips. The first trip is scheduled for June 2023.
