Point-of-Care Ultrasonography (POCUS)

History & Utility

POCUS is an ever expanding field. Ultrasound was first used in a medical setting in the 1940s for obstetrics. In the last 30 years it has entered every specialty of medicine and has changed the way healthcare professionals practice!
For austere medicine, both from a military perspective and global health perspective, ultrasound gives clinicians the ability to make diagnoses real time without advanced imaging or other diagnostic modalities that may not be readily available.

Our Integration

Medicine in Mission is an advocate of POCUS education and utilization in global health. Medical teams that serve with us will have access to online ultrasound modules to help familiarize themselves with techniques, applications and diagnoses. While abroad, POCUS machines will be available for teams to use to assist with patient care and international educational initiatives.
